Marketing Defined

Darren Rowse, of Problogger has reinforced what I often write about in this blog “to increase website traffic and incomes takes time”… in this recent post of his making money with a website or chain of blogs does not happen overnight .

For instance, while I have been online for over 4 years quietly learning my craft (and let me assure you Online Marketing and SEO, is a vastly different field to that of Offline Marketing) it was only in December 2004 I published this my first Blog “Marketing Defined” on this website which has been on the go since 2003

Only 4 days ago, I put up my second blog Improve Memory - the Blog and again, the reasons for this new Blog are not purely financial (although I do have a very hungry teenager to feed ;-), but rather an avenue to explore why the “photographic” memory I possessed in my earlier years, was slowing down a touch - AND - to better understand the crippling mental disease my son has been afflicted with.. and diagnosed with when he was 14 years old.

Bi-Polar to me as a mother, I believe, is a product of the drug culture our children are faced with… it is an insiduous disease, an epidemic destroying the very fabric of society, by attacking the brains of our most precious commodity, our future generation - teenagers! And all it takes to halt this alarming trend, is education and awareness… I have written to our Prime Minister and now await a reply… well! nothing changes until we make small moves in the right direction.

Determined education and application in the field of SEO has grown my traffic base. But, as I believe Darren Rowse made this point earlier, you will only see a full field of “comments” at the field of Posts, when you have been online for a considerable length of time to gain a reputation and a loyal audience.

This will only come from knowing your target market and a genuine desire to educate and pass on knowledge freely with a strong sense of ethics.

For example my target audience’ are “newcomers to home based business” and “new online entrepreneurs“.. and targeted Forums have been one of the best avenues to gain these subscribers.

The Search Engines have been kind to me, but this been no fluke, and together with constant use of quality optimization tools and keeping up to date with changes in Marketing and Search Engine trends, I spend a good 16 hours of each day at my desk and computer - AND - a large block of that time is spent in constant education.

One piece of advice I can give you - to grow online in the shortest possible period of time, do try to stay away from saturated fields like SEO and Online Marketing, and concentrate on a tight niche with little competition.
